Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteGilbert Maxwell (1910-1979) was an actor, author, editor, and educator born in Washington, Georgia. Maxwell won a scholarship to Rollins College, worked as an editor of poetry reviews and as an actor with the Federal Theatre project in Atlanta. Maxwell spent most of his professional life in New York City. Scope and ContentThe collection consists of manuscripts including an unpublished biography of Tallulah Bankhead, correspondence, reviews, poetry, literary contracts, and photographs.
