Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteIn 1950, Chicopee Manufacturing Company, a subsidiary of Johnson and Johnson, purchased the Athens Manufacturing Company in Athens, Georgia to produce cotton products. The Athens Manufacturing Company was established in 1828 as a cotton mill. Scope and ContentThe collection consists of records of the Chicopee Manufacturing Company (Athens, Ga.) and its predecessor, the Athens Manufacturing Company, from 1824-1975. Includes correspondence, financial condition reports (1936-1953), legal papers (1824-1975), photographs, account ledger (1910-1914), and two minute books (1835-1935) which document the management and activities of a cotton manufacturing plant.
