Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteThe United Kingdom's (U.K.) Public Record Office (PRO) was established in 1939 with the intention of housing the national archives of the U.K. In 2003 and PRO merged with the Historical Manuscripts Commission (HMC) to create The National Archives. Scope and ContentCollection includes photocopies of Great Britain's Public Records Office records from 1600-1900. Records are primarily derived from the Colonial Office, Treasury, and Admiralty Office and cover the financial, adminstratorial, and legal affairs of British colonies located in the Americas.
