Collection DescriptionScope and ContentThe collection consists of one record book, produced by the American Sunday-School Union, in which J. L. Stevens recorded daily details of his missionary work near Charleston, South Carolina from 1869-1870. Daily entries discuss who he visited, where he preached, and includes many references to meeting with African American preachers. Also contains monthly reports listing name of Sunday school, location, number of teachers and students, and name of superintendent; and account current which details expenses incurred, books sold, and donations.
