Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteDr. Susan Sherman has had a long career in disability accomodation and rehabilitation. From 1989-1993, she served as the ADA/Section 504 Coordinator for the Georgia Department of Human Resources, with responsibility for leading the state's implementation of new regulations governing accommodations for individuals with disabilities and advising private industry on compliance measures. Afterward, she would serve as the District, and later Regional, Director of the DHR's Division of Rehabilitation Services, and the Assistant Vocational Rehabilitation Director for the Georgia Department of Labor's Vocational Rehabilitation Program. In addition to her career in public service, Dr. Sherman has worked as a teaching and research assistant for Michigan State University's Rehabilitation Counselor Education Program. From 2016 to her retirement in 2021, she was an Assistant Professor and Director of Rehabilitation and Career Counseling at East Carolina University. She holds a Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Counselor Education from Michigan State University and is the author of numerous publications in the field of rehabilitation and vocational counseling. Scope and ContentThis collection contains reports, correspondence, and other documents relating to Georgia's implementation of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act, including new building regulations, advise on the ADA's employment regulations, training manuals, and other preparatory texts for compliance with Section 504 and the ADA. Organization and ArrangementThis collection retains the organization scheme established by the donor. Administrative InformationConditions Governing AccessThis collection contains audiovisual materials. Reference copies of the audiovisual recordings are available upon request. Research requests will be filled as soon as possible and will be dependent upon the condition of the recordings. Conditions Governing AccessThis collection contains digital files.
