Includes correspondence, bills, receipts, notes, scrapbooks, and clippings. Early correspondence (1842-1879) is between Long,
his wife Caroline, and daughter Frances. From 1897-1929, the correspondence details efforts of Frances Long Taylor to establish
her father's claim to the first successful use of ether as an anesthetic, including correspondence with Irish physician George
Foy and Allen Smith of the University of Pennsylvania; and memorials to Long. The scrapbooks contain copies of affidavits,
letters, and notes copied by Florence Long Bartow concerning her father's use of ether; genealogical material on the Long,
Swain, and allied families; photographs; and clippings on Long's career and memorials. The collection also contains bills,
receipts, and legal documents for Emma M. Long and the estate of Frances Long Taylor.

This collection consists of materials documenting the family relations of noted Civil War Georgia Governor Joseph Emerson
Brown. It includes genealogy materials that cover the 18th and 19th centuries, correspondence between family members of different
generations, which discuss typical family business for the time, including typed transcripts of Joseph E. Brown's 1865 letter
to Andrew Johnson requesting release from prison, as well as his sworn agreement not to bear arms against the United States
government. also included are women's diaries, the bulk being the European travel journals of Sally Eugenia Brown, as well
as family financial material such as account books and land documents, as well as stock certificates for a company named posthumously
for Joseph E. Brown. The collectioin also contains printed matter, including clippings and a speech to the Georgia Assembly
that son Joseph M. Brown gave as governor in 1912, and photographs of a few later relatives of the family.

The collection consists of two diaries kept by Rebecca Foy consisting of handwritten accounts of marriages, births, deaths,
illnesses, and remedies for illnesses and nosebleeds. The earliest birth recorded is "Anne Dasher, born Sept. 21, 1778."
The final entry ("My ducks began to lay"), dated 1864. The collection also includes Book I – Vol. I, dated 1936, titled Fay
Family of Effingham County, Georgia. Assorted family papers include: Biography of Edward Edwin Foy (1842-1907), written by
Eloise Eugenia Foy Ward; one letter dated Jan. 31, 1933, addressed to Mrs. Ella Cordona, regarding a letter she had written
attempting to locate George Foy, who had enslaved Cordona; and miscellaneous handwritten accounts of births and deaths of
Foy family descendants.
The diaries mention the purchase of the following enslaved people: Reuben, 1853, age 9; Jake, 1853; Lawrence, 1855; Elbert,
1855, age 12; Monroe and Sam, 1856; Stephen, 1856, age 10; Sam, 1857; Lewis, 1857, age 12. There is also mention of a few
incidents of 'runaways' between 1858 and 1861.

The Jack Leigh collection contains an array of material covering both Leigh's personal and professional life. The collection
includes photographs, negatives, slides, audio tapes, video tapes, journals, notebooks, appointment books, schedules, letters,
printed material, correspondence/subject files, material relating to his published books, financial papers, legal documents,
medical and insurance papers, and other items.
The professional photographs include work prints, contact prints, and fine art prints. Subjects range from Southern landscapes,
coastal scenes, rural and agricultural scenes and interiors to people in family groups, social gatherings, and in various
recreational and occupational activities. Many of the images are ones that were used in his published books. The negatives
include 35mm, 4x5, and medium format and are arranged by date (in most cases the first 2 digits of the negative number indicate
the year it was made). Papers relating to his books include research material, notes, drafts, proofs, correspondence, photographs,
promotional material, reviews, and other items. The legal material in the collection includes papers concerning his litigation
with Warner Brothers as well as a few other copyright infringement cases. Personal material in the collection includes letters,
photographs, journals, notebooks, printed matter, and some of his parents papers which include letters, albums, scrapbooks,
diaries, writings, and genealogical material.
