Scope and Content

The collection consists of one letter from J. Young (Rowan County, N.C.) to Jonathan Burroughs (Hawkinsville, Ga.) regarding the sale of an enslaved African American boy. It sheds light not only on the economic and human aspects of slavery in the Cotton Belt. It is valuable also on some of the problems of emigration from an older section of the South and settling in a new country.
