Captain Daniel Kirkpatrick, Jr. commanded the Washington Artillery, he was commissioned in 1854.

Joseph Emerson Brown (1821-1894) was a lawyer, Georgia Governor (1857-1865), and U. S. Senator (1880-1890).

This collection consists of a letter written by Captain Daniel Kirkpatrick, Jr. in January of 1860 to Governor Jospeh E. Brown regarding the state of the Washington Artillery Company, stationed in Augusta, Georgia. It details the officers, unit personnel, and arms, along with suggested improvements as per Special Order #22.
