Collection Description

Historical Note

Lewis Nielson (b.1950) served as a professor of music composition at the University of Georgia from 1978-1999, and directed the University of Georgia Contemporary Chamber Ensemble. Nielson served on the faculty at Oberlin Conservatory from 2000-2015.

Helmut Lachenmann (b.1935) is an award-winning composer and teacher from Stuttgart, Germany.

Karlheinz Stockhausen (1928-2007) was an influential German composer of experimental electronic music.

Scope and Content

This collection contains correspondence, photographs, and dedications written on scores from Helmut Lachenmann to Lewis Nielson. It also includes one letter from Karlheinz Stockhausen to Lachenmann.
