Historical Note

Corporal James Aker mustered into the Wisconsin 24th Infantry, U.S. Army on August 5, 1862, and mustered out on June 10, 1865.

Scope and Content

The collection consists of a diary kept by Corporal James Aker from January 1-December 31, 1864. Aker's diary details marching through Tennessee and battling in Georgia. An excerpt from August 5 entry: "Relieved of picket. Our line made a little demonstration on the Rebs but fell back again. Hard fighting on the right."
