Scope and Content

The collection consists of two legal documents prepared and signed by Henry L. Sims, in Lumpkin Superior Court, 1847, involving a possible gold scam in Lumpkin County, Georgia. Johnson Ledbetter sued Martin Roberts, Jeptha Scott, and Jonas Bedford, charging them with a conspiracy to sell him land in Lumpkin County that included gold deposits when they knew there were none. The documents include Scott's answer, disavowing all knowledge to the specifics of Ledbetter's charges, and an interrogatory from Sims to a witness, asking for information concerning gold mining activity on the land, and with Ledbetter's counter-interrogatories appended.
