Collection Description
Historical Note
The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was a work relief program (1933-1942) created by New Deal legislation, during the Great Depression. Originally created as the Emergency Conservation Work program to address environmental conservation projects, it employed millions of young men for voluntary 6 month to 2 year periods. Workers' camps were established near work zones, and run by U.S. Army Reserve officers.
Scope and Content
The collection consists of approved, denied, and pending Civilian Conservation Corps service request forms from the State of Georgia Department of Public Welfare, from 1937-1939. Applications contain the name of caseworker; applicant's name, age, sex, and race; names of family members (age, sex, and race); head or relation to head of household; and school grade completed of members in household.
