Scope and Content

The collection consists of historical documents collected by Williamson S. Stuckey, Jr. Documents include: a list of complimentary weapons, food, etc. from John Hancock to Mr. Osborn of the committee of Wars, undated; document signed by Thomas Jefferson appointing John Allison Lt. Col. of the 1st State Regiment of Infantry in the Commonwealth of Virginia, dated July 23, 1779; order signed by Andrew Jackson directing the Secretary of State to affix the Seal of the United States to respite of Philander R. Broad, dated February 18, 1837; certificate signed by Robert E. Lee that articles were received for the improvement of the harbor of St. Louis, circa 1838; correspondence to Thomas Gilbert of Columbus, Georgia, from Alexander H. Stephens, regarding Miscellanies of Georgia; and correspondence to Captain John H. Martin from Jefferson Davis regarding the cane Martin gave Davis, dated January 9, 1887. The collection also includes an etched portrait of Andrew Jackson, and engraved portraits of Thomas Jefferson and Robert E. Lee.
