Collection Description

Historical Note

The WPA Federal Writers Project was a program established in the United States in 1935 by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) as part of the New Deal struggle against the Great Depression. It provided jobs for unemployed writers, editors, artists, and others in the field of humanities.

Scope and Content

The collection consists imprints, collected by Works Progress Administration workers as part of the "Southeastern Imprints Plan." The bulk of the imprints reflect works produced between the years 1808-1875, and several imprints reflect twentieth century dates.
