Collection Description

Historical Note

Charles Ivey Patterson received his Masters degree in language arts from Emory University in 1940 and his Doctorate in philosophy of English at the University of Illinois in 1950. He served as Sandy Beaver Professor of English at the University of Georgia until his retirement in 1983. Many of his most extensive and rewarding studies involved the Romantic writers and poets.

Scope and Content

This collection consists of correspondence and writings from Dr. Patterson's career as student, teacher and romantic scholar.
