Collection Description

Scope and Content

The collection includes a sword and dagger from Nazi Germany. The sword is an officer's light dress sword, with scabbard. The dagger is a standard issue dress dagger with scabbard.

1. The Army Officer's Light Dress Sword has a 30.5 inch steel blade and a single vertical guard made of brass. This weapon was a dress weapon from the Wehrmacht of Nazi Germany. It is a variation of types that were manufactured throughout the Solingen area from the mid 1930s through the early 1940s. It is characterized by a sharpened blade, is complete with a leather dress strap and a silver-gilt acron, and a garnet-eyed lion surmounting the pommel. Both the pommel and hilt have been gilded. There is a maker's mark at the hilt on the blade as follows: (Left to right) a four-lobed rose surmounted by a Crown; a crested helmet; all appearing over the initials W.K. & C. This sword is also acompanied by a nickel-plated steel scabbard.

2. The Standard Model Dress Dagger has a 8.75 inch steel blade. This was the standard dagger issued to Nazi Storm Troopers (Sturm Abteilung, or SA). This particular dagger bears the RZ control number assigned to Carl Eickhorn of Solingen (M 7/ 66). It was manufactured in 1941. Etched lengthwise along the blade are the following words: "Alles fur Deutschland" or All for Germany. The grip bears the SA insignia and is of wood. The scabbard is of steel, and is brown and nickel-plated.
