Historical Note

The Georgia Commission for the National Bicentennial Celebration was established by the General Assembly in 1969 to cooperate with the American Revolution Bicentennial Commission, and to create a program for commemoration of the Bicentennial in Georgia. In addition to coordinating activities commemorating historic events associated with the American Revolution, the Georgia commission published a series of pamphlets on the American Revolution in Georgia. Kenneth Coleman, professor of history at the University of Georgia served on the commission from 1969-1979.
