Historical Note

Josephus R. Ansley, born November 14, 1826, was the youngest child of Thomas Ansley Jr. He married Gilly R. Richardson on February 21, 1849 in Upson County, Georgia. Elizabeth G. Walls was formerly Elizabeth G. Ansley, the sister of Josephus. She married Oliver Walls on December 25, 1838 in Warren County, Georgia.

Scope and Content

The collection consists of two letters between J. R. and Gilly Ansley, written from Garden Valley, Texas and O. and Elizabeth Walls of Thomaston, Georgia. The letters discuss family illness, the growing of crops, and the heat of mid-day.
