Historical Note
William Harris Crawford (1772-1834), two-time U.S. presidential nominee (1816 and 1824), U.S. senator (November 7, 1807 to March 23, 1813), cabinet member under two presidents (Secretary of War beginning in August 1815; transferred to the Treasury in October 1816, and served under Presidents Madison and James Monroe until 1825), foreign diplomat (Minister to France 1813-1815), and judge of the northern circuit court (1827-1834).

The collection consists of one handwritten letter: dated Treasury Department, June 5, 1822, to "Thomas Wilson, Cashier of the Bank of the United States," signed "William H. Crawford," regarding banking matters.
