Collection Description

Historical Note

The University System of Georgia (USG) underwent a major construction boom in the late 1930s, bolstered by Public Works Administration (PWA) funding under the New Deal. Rudolph H. Driftmier, head of the agricultural engineering department at UGA, supervised building for the USG in conjunction with architect Roy E. Hitchcock.

Scope and Content

The collection consists of blueprints and plans from thirteen different institutions in the University System of Georgia. The University of Georgia is the most represented institution in the collection. Non-collegiate projects, such as the Chicopee Manufacturing Company (the site of which is now belongs to UGA's Facilities Management Division) and several agricultural facilities are also included. In additions to blueprints and plans, the collection contains some campus maps and comprehensive campus plans.

Organization and Arrangement

The collection consists of fifteen series based on institution/location: 1. University of Georgia 2. Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College 3. Albany State College 4. Chicoppe Manufacturing Company 5. Fort Valley State College 6. Georgia Normal and Agricultural College 7. Georgia Southwestern College 8. Georgia State College for Women 9. Middle Georgia College 10. North Georgia College 11.
