Historical Note

The Richard B. Russell Memorial Statue, created by sculptor Frederick Hart, was dedicated January 24, 1996, in the Richard B. Russell Senate Office Building in Washington, D.C. In attendance were Vice President Al Gore, Senators Robert C. Byrd, Sam Nunn, Ted Stevens and other members of Congress, Georgia Governor Zell Miller, Senator Russell's sisters, Pat Peterson and Carolyn Nelson, Frederick Hart and Charles Campbell, chairman of the Richard B. Russell Foundation, which provided funding for the statue.
