Collection Description

Biographical Note

Dorothy L. "Dot" Wood was born on October 3, 1930 in Macon, Georgia to Walter Lundy, Sr. and Ruth Holden Lundy. She attended the University of Georgia where she was a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. She graduated in 1952 and was named Woman of the Year in her graduating class. She served as the Women's Editor of the Red and Black and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. After graduation, she was a reporter for the Atlanta Journal Constitution and then vice president of the Rafshoon advertising agency where she directed the Governor's ad campaign for Jimmy Carter in 1970. In 1972 she opened her own agency, Wood and Associates. For the next twenty years, she was a major player in Southern politics. Clients included Sam Nunn, Zell Miller, George Busbee, William Winter, Norman Underwood, and David Poythress. Her successes with political campaigns also lead to taking on more lucrative clients such as banks and MARTA. She also held the Democratic Party of Georgia account. Wood passed away on June 9, 2008, after battling stomach cancer.
