Collection Description
Historical Note
Erin Lodge, No. 70, Meriwether County, Georgia, and Hollonville Lodge, No. 70, Pike County, Georgia, were masonic orders that were active from the middle of the 19th century into the early part of the 20th century. Both lodges were affiliated with the Grand Lodge of Georgia, Free and Accepted Masons, which was established in 1786 and exists to the present day.
Leeman Anderson was born in December 1899 in Hollonville, Pike County, Georgia, to James and Sarah Anderson. In 1931, having until then served as the chief clerk in the Georgia Department of Agriculture, Anderson resigned to join Richard B. Russell's gubernatorial campaign. Following Russell's election, he was hired as Governor Russell's secretary and primary assistant. When Russell became a U.S. Senator in 1933, Anderson accompanied him to Washington as his chief administrative assistant. In 1937, Anderson married Dorothy Webb, who also worked in Russell's office. Soon after, Anderson took a job with the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Harlingen, Texas. He returned to his former position in late 1941 and remained a member of Russell's staff until his death in August 1969.
Scope and Content
The Leeman Anderson Collection of Masonic Lodge Records documents the activities of two masonic lodges, Erin Lodge, No. 70, in Meriwether County, Georgia, and Hollonville Lodge, No. 70, in Pike County, Georgia. The collection contains minute and account books for both lodges; the Hollonville Lodge materials include general correspondence and "returns," which function as annual reports of the lodge's membership and fiscal stability.
Anderson's connection to the materials is unclear, though it is possible that his father, James Anderson, or another relative was at one time a member of one or both of the lodges.

The collection is arranged in two series: I. Erin Lodge and II. Hollonville Lodge.
